About The Creative Photography Program

The Creative Photography Program at Island Coast High School explores the foundations of photographic technique and aesthetics, in both black-and-white and color. Courses begin with the basics...camera types and functions, the exposure triangle, and compositional fundamentals. Adobe Photoshop CS6 is our "digital darkroom"”", and students learn to edit photographs using basic and advanced features of the software. Students interested in pursuing Photography as a Fine Art may continue with Pre-AP and Portfolio classes, followed by our AP Studio Photography course.

Our students in the Creative Photography program have received numerous awards for their photographic art. These include a "Best of Show" in the 2013 Art under 20 Exhibition at ArtFest, Fort Myers, among others in the annual Lee Arts Educators Alliance Exhibit. Most recently in 2014, a student photographer was awarded first place in the Pride & Patriotism of Lee County annual event.

Many students continue to pursue Creative Photography as their college major. Photography students graduating from Island Coast are currently attending Ringling School of the Arts, The Art Institute of Tampa, Digital Media Arts College, and Florida International University, among others.
