Academy of Culinary Arts

Do you love to cook? Do you want to get a job in a local restaurant or food service establishment? Are you interested in a professional career in the Food Service Industry? The Culinary Academy at ICHS introduces students to the exciting world of culinary arts with hands-on learning experiences and a pathway to certification. 

Island Coast High School’s Culinary Academy is a comprehensive four-year program where students learn advanced skills and participate in cooking labs, community events and competitions which are designed to prepare them for a career in the culinary industry. 

The course includes the history of food, culinary trendsetters, knife skills, the use of specialized equipment, culinary math, recipe creation, food service and plate presentation. Students will develop employability and leadership skills, explore careers in the industry , and  participate  in cooking labs that introduce them to foods from around the world.  

In the first semester, students will complete the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association’s Food Safety program to earn their Florida Food Handler’s card.  This card is valid for 3 years and allows students to gain entry-level employment in local restaurants and food service establishments.  

By the end of the program, students can take the certification exam to earn the National Restaurant Association’s coveted ServSafe Manager Certification, the most highly regarded certificate in the food service industry. This certificate which is valid for 5 years takes students from entry-level workers to leaders  in the culinary field.
